Pain:  Because pain is inevitable with any surgical procedure, the veterinarian will give medication before and after surgery to ease your pet's discomfort.  It is not always obvious if your pet is in pain after surgery. Dogs and cats often try to hide their pain.  The most obvious signs are vocalizing or crying, but many pets will stay quiet.  More subtle signs of pain are persistent restlessness and prolonged periods of inactivity.  Dogs may pant excessively and cats may not groom themselves normally.

While not all pain can be eliminated through medication, it is important to let the veterinarian know of your pet's discomfort.  Discuss with us whether additional medication is needed.
