We will update this page frequently, and would love to hear your ideas on links that you would like to see us add to this page to share with other pet owners. Feel free to send us your favorites.   • Choosing a new puppy  This is a nice starter guide of things that you should consider when you are thinking about getting a puppy.
  • Pet insurance info from AAHA  While we do not endorse a specific pet insurance company, we strongly encourage pet owners to obtain pet insurance coverage.  There are many companies and many plans available, and we encourage you to research to find the pet insurance that meets your needs.  This link connects  you to a guide provided by AAHA to assist you in your search.  Included is a list of high-deductible pet insurance companies that meet the criteria set by AAHA to earn their seal of acceptance.
  • Behavior problems  Founded by Brian Kilcommons and Sharon Wilson, best-selling authors and recognized experts on animal training and behavior, this site is a terrific resource for advice on a variety of behavioral problems. If you want to learn more about feline housesoiling, barking dogs, aggression, or any other behavioral problem, check this one out!  
  • Heartworm Society  Everything you ever wanted to know about heartworm disease can be found here!
  • National Animal Poison Control Center  This is the website of the National Animal Poison Control Center. It includes a library, links to other sites, and phone numbers for the poison control center.
  • Cornell University's Library of Poisonous Plants  This site gives you all the information needed to know if that new houseplant is safe for your pet.  It includes detailed information about which plants are harmful and what clinical signs the animal would show.
  • USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service  The USDA maintains this website with information on a variety of animal health related topics, including the latest news on such things as Mad Cow Diseases, foot and mouth disease, and many other things.
  • APHIS/USDA Travel Requirements for Pets  This site provides valuable information for anyone traveling with their pet.  This is especially useful for international travel requirements.
  • American Veterinary Medical Association  This site is a good starting point to learn more about a variety of topics, including feline injection-site sarcomas and the latest subjects in veterinary medicine.
  • AAHA's Healthy Pet  A useful link for detailed information on most pet-related topics including vaccines, disease info and much more.  The pet-care health library is a great place to start looking into any pet-related questions.
  • Pet Health Topics by Washington State University Veterinary Hospital   This site provides useful information for pet-owners including: illustrated instruction on medicating your pet, detailed disease information and anatomic illustrations.
  • American Association of Feline Practitioners  The AAFP is like the American Medical Association for cat doctors, and has lots of good information regarding feline health.
  • Cornell University Feline Health Center  The Feline Health Center contains useful information about many common illnesses in cats. 
  • Pets and Parasites (CAPC)  This Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) site is the number one place to learn more about the parasites that can infect your pet and possible even you.
  • The Wildlife Center of Virginia   Learn more about this valuable local resource.  This is especially helpful if you have questions about injured wildlife.
  • Rainbow Bridge  Anyone who has ever lost a pet should visit this wonderful site. It is a terrific tribute to our lost family members.
  • PetsMatter  PetsMatter is a bi-monthly newsletter written and designed by AAHA that offers information about many interesting topics.  Topics such as seasonal concerns, emerging diseases, wellness care, behavior modification, environmental enrichment and many more.
